Corona pandemic – there is a steep upward trend – district of Munich

The current picture of the pandemic in the Munich district is vague: On the one hand, there is the sharply increasing seven-day incidence – from 99.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants a week ago to the current 147.0 . On the other hand, there are only contact persons for infected people in quarantine at two schools: the grammar school in Kirchheim and the technical and vocational school in Unterschleißheim; Elementary and middle schools are not affected at all. At the beginning of the week, students from 14 facilities were still in quarantine at home. At the same time, however, the municipality of Planegg closed its kindergartens as a precaution until after All Saints’ Day after four cases of infection had been confirmed there.

So is the corona situation in the district currently worsening again, is the fourth wave even coming or is the situation just manageable? The answer to this varies depending on which perspective you take. On the one hand, 599 new infections have been added for a week, currently 1008 people in the district are corona-positive. For comparison: A year ago it was 539 and the seven-day incidence was 127. Now the incidence is 147.0, an almost steady increase since Friday last week. In Bavaria it is even 221.9 on average, Mühldorf has the highest value with 644.7. Across Germany, the incidence is currently 139.2.

If the seven-day incidence were still decisive for restrictions on public life like last year, it would not only be the district again in a lockdown with closed shops, pubs and leisure facilities. In the meantime, however, the hospital traffic light is the decisive criterion and it is still on green: In the Munich clinics – there are none in the district – there were 368 Covid patients in intensive care units at the end of the week; only after 600 the traffic light would turn red. At the same time, 455 infected people were newly admitted to the Munich hospitals in the past week. If there are more than 1200 new entries in seven days, the traffic light will turn yellow. Seen in this way, everything is – for the time being – in the green area. Nevertheless, the district administrators at their meeting on Thursday in Dachau called for stricter, also regional measures.

And another number indicates that the fight against the pandemic is on the spot: In the past week, only 2,221 people in the district were immunized against Covid for the second time. The vaccination rate is around 70 percent.
