Corona pandemic: rapid boosting for all French

France is speeding up the third vaccination: From Saturday, all adults should have the opportunity to boost. Anyone who wants to be “vaccinated” from January onwards must be able to show the third vaccination.

In France, the booster vaccination against the coronavirus is possible from Saturday for all adults aged 18 and over. Health Minister Olivier Véran said in Paris that the interval between the previous vaccination should only be five months. The booster vaccination will be mandatory from mid-January in order to keep the “vaccinated” status.

The French health authority had recently spoken out in favor of expanding the booster vaccination. “The worrying infection rate justifies the acceleration of the vaccination campaign,” emphasized the authority. So far, people over 65 and with previous illnesses can have themselves boosted in France.

The rules for the health pass – this corresponds to the 3G rule in Germany – are also changing. In the future, a test may only be a maximum of 24 hours old, previously it was 72 hours. “Those who have not been vaccinated have to have a daily test in order to benefit from the health card,” said Véran. The test is chargeable for unvaccinated people with no symptoms in France.

Véran: pay more attention to corona rules again

Véran appealed to the French to comply with the rules of distance again, to ventilate regularly and to refrain from kissing on the cheek. He announced a decree on the mask requirement in all indoor areas in which the health passport must be presented, for example in restaurants, museums, theaters. “The current wave could peak as early as next week,” said Véran.

In France, the incidence is currently 193 cases per 100,000 inhabitants per week. Almost 33,000 new cases were reported on Wednesday, a high in the current wave. The number of infections has risen by a good 80 percent within a week.

With a good 1400 Covid intensive care patients, the situation in the hospitals is not yet dramatic, which probably has to do with the high vaccination rate of a good 75 percent of the total population.

Vaccination of children is being examined

After the EMA approval for BioNTech’s children’s vaccine, the ethics committee and health authorities in France are now reviewing whether children between the ages of five and eleven should be vaccinated, Veran said. However, there will be no such vaccination before 2022.
