About as many new corona infections are currently detected in Israel as in Germany. Only about nine million people live here. The Israeli government has now tightened the rules for indoor spaces.

1400 new corona infections were detected in Israel yesterday. A number that roughly corresponds to the number of new infections in Germany. The population of Israel is nine times smaller. The Delta variant is spreading in Israel despite the high vaccination rate. However, the number of serious disease courses is still low.

The Israeli government is now reintroducing the “green passport” system. At events with more than 100 guests, only those who have been vaccinated, genesis or negatively tested come in. In the past two months this rule had been lifted.

Wrong signals

Many Israelis no longer adhere to the mask requirement indoors. According to experts, this is due to the fact that two months ago the government gave the impression that the pandemic was a thing of the past. To demand discipline again – that is difficult.

From now on, stores should direct customers out of the store if they are not wearing masks. In many smaller shops, however, it has so far been the case that even the employees do not wear masks. Anyone who does not adhere to the mask requirement must pay the equivalent of 250 euros. The Israeli police insist that they will control the rules with immediate effect.

Concern about vacation season

The Israeli government is worried about the holiday season. She has urged the Israelis not to leave the country. Because hotel prices in Israel are extremely high, many continue to plan their vacation abroad.
