Status: 10/26/2022 2:41 p.m

According to China’s state media, a corona vaccine for inhalation is being administered in Shanghai. People who are already immunized can therefore use the aerosol version of a vaccine as a free booster.

According to state media, authorities in the Chinese metropolis of Shanghai have provided citizens with a booster by inhalation. A video posted by the government’s online media showed people around the city taking a breath from a nozzle over a whitish cup. According to the accompanying text, they inhaled slowly and held their breath for five seconds. One vaccinated person said the vaccine tasted a little sweet.

Clinical tests also in Hungary

The inhalation mist is offered free of charge as a vaccination booster for people who are already immunized. According to the information, droplets of the fog strengthen the virus defenses in the mouth and throat, even smaller droplets travel further into the body and fend off the virus before it reaches the respiratory tract.

The drug was developed by the Chinese company Cansino Biologics and approved in September. According to the information, it is the aerosol version of a vaccine administered by syringe. In addition to China, there have also been clinical trials in Hungary, Pakistan, Malaysia, Argentina and Mexico. According to the AFP news agency, no independent study has been published to date that proves its effectiveness.

Strict Pandemic Regime

Although there is no corona vaccination requirement in China, the authorities only want to relax their strict pandemic rules if a large number of people have received a booster vaccination. Vaccination by inhalation could also convince people who shy away from an injection. In India, a nasal drop vaccine developed in the USA has been approved but has not yet been delivered. According to the World Health Organization, about a dozen such vaccines are being tested around the world.
