Once again it was a tough and confusing week for the German and Austrian ski resort operators. The Bavarian Cabinet decided on a 2-G-plus regulation for cable cars, which means that use is only possible for immunized persons with an additional test. “This is the death knell for us,” said Matthias Stauch, President of the German Cable Car Association, appalled. “With these resolutions, any hope of recovery in the winter sports industry dies.” In Austria, on the other hand, a corona ordinance was passed on Sunday evening, a few hours before the nationwide lockdown came into force, according to which the ski areas are now allowed to open as outdoor sports facilities – at least for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered. But the ski resort operators were suddenly faced with another dilemma: Open? Better to wait for better times? And if it is already open: close it or let it continue?
