In the corona strongholds, the incidence is rising steadily, as the new data from the RKI shows. There is a sad record here. The incidence is falling somewhat across Germany.

The fourth wave is still in full swing, as shown by the latest figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The health authorities of the Federal Republic reported 64,510 new infections with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus within 24 hours yesterday. That is about 2500 less than a week ago. But the remaining numbers do not point to a quick recovery of the situation.

The 7-day incidence, which stands for the infections per 100,000 inhabitants within the last seven days, rose again slightly. It is now 442.7 for Germany as a whole. On Friday, the RKI reported the value as 442.1. Compared to the previous week, however, the incidence has decreased. On Saturday a week ago, the value was 444.3.

Sad records

While the overall value is falling slightly, the development in the individual strongholds is worrying. For the first time since the beginning of the pandemic, two counties broke the mark of 2,000 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. This means that over two percent of the population in each of the two districts contracted the virus within just one week. The sad leader is the district of Central Saxony with a value of 2143.8, followed by the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains with 2010.9. In total, there are now 31 districts with an incidence value of over 1000. Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria are particularly affected.

The number of those who died as a result of a coronavirus infection has decreased slightly compared to the previous day with a value of 378, but has increased significantly compared to the previous week (303 deceased).

In total, there have been 6,116,070 reported infections with Covid-19 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic, and a total of 102,946 people have died as a result of the infection.
