The 7-day incidence of corona cases in Germany continues to rise. There are also more deaths on a weekly basis. Health Minister Jens Spahn warns and says what it takes to break the fourth wave.

The rise in the seven-day incidence in Germany, which has continued for a good two weeks, is continuing. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) stated the number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Sunday morning as 149.4. For comparison: the previous day the value was 145.1, a week ago it was 106.3. The health authorities in Germany reported 16,887 new infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from the numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 04:24. A week ago, the value was 13,732 infections.

According to the new information, 33 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 23 deaths. The RKI has counted 4,597,550 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

Debate about corona booster vaccination is picking up speed

The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days – the most important parameter for a possible tightening of the corona restrictions – was given by the RKI on Friday as 3.50 (Thursday: 3.31, Wednesday: 3, 07). The value is not published on Saturday and Sunday. With the indicator it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay. A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 4,275,500. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 95,729.

With the numbers rising, the booster vaccination debate continues to gather momentum. The acting Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) called for a federal-state summit on the subject. SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach called for the vaccination centers to be reopened.

Jens Spahn: “The booster speed is not enough”

Despite the criticism from the medical profession, Spahn continued to push for booster vaccinations for everyone. “Currently the booster speed in Germany’s practices is not enough. We need a booster summit from the federal and state governments,” said the executive health minister of “Bild am Sonntag”. Current data from Israel showed “that boosting makes a crucial difference in breaking the fourth wave”.

High-ranking medical representatives opposed booster vaccinations for everyone. “So far there is no sufficient scientific evidence for the need for booster vaccinations for people of all ages,” said medical president Klaus Reinhardt to the newspapers of the editorial network Germany (RND) on Saturday. Statutory health insurance chief Andreas Gassen warned against “blind actionism”.
