The beautiful downturn has just come to an abrupt end: for the first time in two weeks, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an increasing incidence on Monday. The value climbed only very slightly – from 315.4 on Sunday to 316.0 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week. Nonetheless, this could mark the beginning of an already anticipated U-turn. “You will only be able to say exactly from observation,” says Dirk Brockmann, whose team at the Humboldt University in Berlin uses models to depict the developments in the pandemic. But he assumes that “this is now probably the trend reversal”.
