The federal government has already announced that it wants to take more care of long-Covid sufferers. But that does not go far enough for the Bavarian Minister of Health. He is pushing for an initiative by the federal states.

For people with long-term disabilities According to Bavaria’s Health Minister Klaus Holetschek, a state initiative is needed to prevent corona infections. “It’s good that the federal government is finally acting,” said the CSU politician on Sunday in Munich. “But the steps announced by (Federal Health Minister Karl) Lauterbach are unfortunately not enough. That is why I propose that Long/Post-Covid be given more focus in the Health Ministers’ Conference.”

It is important that the federal states share their experiences. “What is needed now is a comprehensive supply strategy and networking of all relevant actors,” said Holetschek.

Long Covid is understood to mean complaints, some of which are severe, that persist after an acute phase of illness of four weeks or then reappear. Post Covid describes the clinical picture more than twelve weeks after a corona infection.

Lauterbach (SPD) presented a long-Covid program on Wednesday, which includes an information portal and 40 million euros in research funding. The initiative should also provide an impetus for more doctors to get involved – because contact points are rare and waiting times are often long.

According to Holetschek, more than 448,000 people with a long/post-Covid diagnosis received outpatient first aid last year in Bavaria alone. Since 2021 there have been around 589,000 people affected.
