Corona – clubs cancel the market – district of Munich

The traditional Christmas market on the Planegg market square falls victim to the corona pandemic again this year. Club coordinator Klaus Waldbart says that the “current situation” makes festivities of this kind very difficult – although the municipality of Planegg had promised its express organizational support.

The Christmas market on the first weekend in Advent was canceled last year due to Corona, only a few stalls were set up in Bahnhofstrasse. For this year the clubs planned to fence in the entire market place. According to Mayor Hermann Nafziger (CSU), this would have had the advantage that admission could have been controlled according to the existing Corona rules: “We had agreed to fence in the markets and set up a security service to ensure compliance with the 3G and 2G rules to ensure.”

But a number of clubs did not want to know anything about it, says club coordinator Waldbart: “The situation is simply too acute. In the end, there might have been allegations that the market was partly to blame for rising corona numbers.” He refers to the red traffic light, the rules of which apply according to the current incidence level and which also provide for strict controls outside. “We also sit in stalls and there we have to comply with the hygiene regulations for gastronomy,” says Waldbart. There has been “a hesitant attitude on the part of the clubs” in the past few days. When the volunteer fire brigade and the Red Cross announced new requirements, the ripcord was pulled. Waldbart refers to the neighboring communities of Krailling and Stockdorf, whose markets have also been canceled.

The Martinsried Christmas market will not take place in its traditional form either, according to the Planegger town hall. But one is still checking whether there could be a stripped-down alternative.
