Cordons-blues banned from school canteens in 2022

Along with the fries and the breaded fish, it was one of the dishes that the children shunned the least in the canteen. The cordon bleu will no longer invite itself on their plate from the start of the 2022 school year, as the ecologist town hall of Lyon announced on Thursday at the exit of the city council, reports Lyon Mag.

An overflow of additives

Indeed, the cordon bleu, this breaded turkey cutlet stuffed with ham and cheese, is for them “the spearhead of ultra-processed products, and as such there is no longer any reason to be in the menus of Lyon students ”. Just look at the ones that are sold commercially: their ingredient labels are long with multiple additives, and a recent documentary on Arte showed that it could be made without using a single natural ingredient.

Mass industrial product not designed to ensure the health of children, the cordon bleu will therefore be banned from school canteens, regardless of the service provider chosen by the town hall to provide the 26,000 meals per day intended for Lyon students. Fortunately there are still the fries.
