After the deadly shots in a shopping center in Copenhagen, the alleged perpetrator is in the closed psychiatric ward. Shortly before the act, he is said to have tried to reach a crisis hotline there.

After the fatal shooting in a Copenhagen shopping center, a court committed the alleged shooter to a psychiatric ward. The suspected perpetrator of the Copenhagen shooting that left three dead is committed to a closed psychiatric ward for 24 days. This was reported by the police in Copenhagen after hearing the suspect before a magistrate. The suspect is thus spending his pre-trial detention in a psychiatric ward.

The accused also took part in the previous hearing, which lasted almost two hours.

According to the investigators, the 22-year-old Dane is accused of intentional homicide in three counts and attempted homicide in seven counts. Three people were killed and four people were shot and seriously injured in the attack in the Fields shopping center, which is located between Copenhagen city center and Copenhagen Airport, on Sunday evening. In addition, three people were treated for injuries caused by possible grazing shots, the police said.

Alleged shooter is said to have had contact with psychiatrists

Police said he was carrying a rifle, pistol and knife, although he did not have a gun permit.

Two Danish teenagers and a 47-year-old Russian man living in Denmark were killed in the shooting. Shortly after the crime, the police arrested the alleged perpetrator. Investigators said he had previously had contact with psychiatric services. According to a report on Danish television, the 22-year-old tried to reach a crisis hotline shortly before the crime.

The man’s placement in the psychiatric ward is initially valid until July 28. The findings so far indicated that the 22-year-old was guilty, the magistrate said, according to Danish television.

The investigators classified videos of the suspect that had been circulating online since Sunday evening as authentic. In it, the young man poses with weapons, mimics suicidal gestures and speaks of psychotropic drugs “that don’t work.” He allowed himself to be arrested without resistance after the crime.
