According to an Israeli media report, a truck convoy carrying relief supplies has reached the sealed-off Gaza Strip. The Israeli news site Ynet, citing officials at the Egyptian Rafah border crossing, reported that 23 trucks carrying humanitarian aid crossed the border into the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening. A total of 33 trucks reached the area yesterday.
It is “the largest delivery of humanitarian aid since October 21,” said the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha). But there is “a far greater” need for aid to provide for the more than 2.2 million residents in the Gaza Strip. In particular, medical equipment, water, sanitation and fuel are needed, it said. Israel has blocked all fuel shipments on the grounds that the terrorist organization Hamas is using them to produce weapons and explosives.
Israel wants more Aid deliveries allow
According to the UN Palestinian relief agency UNRWA, thousands of people broke into storage and distribution points for aid supplies. They took flour and other things such as hygiene products with them.
Israel says it wants to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. A US government official said on Sunday that Israel was prepared to allow 100 trucks carrying aid supplies to enter the Gaza Strip every day.
A Red Cross aid convoy reached the overcrowded Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip for the first time since the outbreak of war between the militant Islamist Hamas and Israel. The trucks brought essential medical supplies for emergency rooms and operating rooms.
People seeking protection in overcrowded hospitals
Doctors at the hospital said that the facility not only houses many injured people, but also serves as emergency shelter for about 20,000 civilians. Overcrowded hospitals in Gaza are increasingly becoming a danger for those seeking protection. Tens of thousands of civilians also sought refuge in Shifa Hospital, the largest clinic in the Gaza Strip.
According to the AP news agency, residents reported that Israeli air strikes had hit the complex. Israel accuses Hamas of maintaining a secret command post beneath the hospital, although it has provided no evidence of this. Hamas denies these allegations. This information cannot be independently verified. Israeli attacks also damaged parts of the Al-Kuds Hospital in Gaza City, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent. According to the aid organization, the clinic had previously received two calls from the Israeli military demanding that the facility be evacuated.
The hospital administration, run by the Palestinian Red Crescent, said an evacuation was not possible. Among the hundreds of patients are children on ventilators and injured people in the intensive care unit. A statement said many of the 14,000 people staying at the hospital were displaced.
Israel’s army continues to advance into the Gaza Strip
Israeli army troops say they have killed dozens of terrorists during their advance in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli military said on Telegram this morning that the enemy had barricaded itself in buildings and tunnels and tried to attack the Israeli soldiers. A fighter plane guided by ground troops bombed a Hamas building where more than 20 of the terrorists were staying.
