Conversation with Yemeni Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkol Karman – Culture

Interviewed by

In Germany, the relief was great and the uneasiness manageable: Chancellor Olaf Scholz had with his Visit to the Gulf courted autocrats, but secured the energy supply for his country. The Yemeni Nobel Peace Prize winner Tawakkol Karman, on the other hand, has a completely different assessment. Karman was her country’s most important voice in the Arab Spring ten years ago. When civil war broke out in Yemen eight years ago, she left the country. She now lives in Boston. She was in Berlin for the international metropolitan conference Q and spoke about the connection between the German gas deal, Yemen politics and the Ukraine war.
