Lauterbach defends cannabis release with restrictions
Cannabis is to be legalized in Germany – albeit subject to conditions. Minister of Health Lauterbrach defended this again in conversation with rapper Sido.
A draft law introduced by the federal cabinet provides for removing cannabis from the list of prohibited substances in the Narcotics Act. Adults over the age of 18 should be allowed to own 25 grams. A maximum of three plants should be allowed to be grown privately.
In cannabis clubs, club members should be able to grow the drug together and give each other – a maximum of 50 grams per month per member. For 18 to 21-year-olds, it should be up to 30 grams per month with a maximum content of ten percent of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the substance with the intoxicating effect. The aim is for it to come into force at the beginning of 2024.
Lauterbach said: “For me, this is also a health law.” It is a great opportunity to say on the occasion of this law, especially with regard to younger people: “If you do this, start late and do little. Preferably from the age of 25, if you have to, but definitely not at a young age .” If you get that information across, it’s worth a lot.
