Control is good, trust was better – in Bavaria’s castles. – Bavaria

The Bavarian royal castles have always been buildings of illusion. Ludwig II in particular wanted to be swindled a bit by his dream property. As the French Sun King, he wanted to look out of the mirror, give the medieval lords of the castle or even make a Byzantine ruler like with the palace that he originally wanted to move into the Graswang valley instead of Linderhof. All the castles have long since passed to the Free State of Bavaria, which also has to put considerable budgetary resources into the whole hodgepodge, but so that it also attracts many guests. And who, in turn, was willingly swindled a bit by these guests until recently, if they wanted to.

Apart from the fact that the state government as a whole has not met the fourth corona wave too decisively for a long time: Until recently, the state palace administration looked at most deeply into the eyes of visitors, but preferably not into their ID cards. At the beginning of September there was even a written message from the highest castle administrator to his governor. There is “no obligation to check ID documents in addition to the attestations and certificates for checking the 3-G rule,” it says. That is why one can, in bold print, “do without it from now on!” The press office should change the information on the homepage accordingly.

The rules for the Free State that had been decided two days earlier were considered to be easing anyway. So it was a good fit that, from now on, visitors to the palace should also provide 3-G proof, but at the same time they did not have to prove that it really was their own proof. “Oh, go!”, The state apparently thought to itself as the lord of the castle. All that was needed was a “plausibility check”, it was said a few weeks later from the higher finance ministry, after a person who should not look too closely complained about this instruction. Control might be good, but trust seemed better.

Whether it’s a hotspot or not: A few weeks later, 2G is now valid in all locks. The homepage says that proof must be brought along and valid ID must be presented.
