No wonder after the success of the first part: Katharina Thalbach is investigating again as former Chancellor “Miss Merkel”.

The former chancellor is investigating again. RTL announces a sequel to “Miss Merkel – A Uckermark Crime”. Katharina Thalbach (69) will slip back into the role of Angela Merkel (68), who is on the road as a hobby detective after her chancellorship. There is no broadcast date yet.

The news of a second Merkel thriller comes as no surprise. The first part was ultimately a great success for RTL. On March 21, 2023, 3.12 million viewers tuned in.

In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Katharina Thalbach indicated even before part one was broadcast that she wanted to continue. “Well, I’d be thrilled to continue doing that,” the actress said.

David Safier has several “Miss Merkel” books in his quiver

The crime comedy is based on the book “Miss Merkel: Murder in the Uckermark” by David Safier (56) from 2021. A year later, the Bremen bestselling author followed up the sequel “Murder in the Cemetery”. According to Katharina Thalbach, he is currently working on part three.

It is not yet known whether “Miss Merkel: Murder in the Cemetery” is the template for the new film. “There are other stories and ideas about Angela Merkel as an investigator that we are currently dealing with,” said an RTL spokesman after part 1 had been broadcast on spot on news.

In “Miss Merkel – Ein Uckermark-Krimi” the chancellor moved to a village in the Uckermark after the end of her time as chancellor. With her husband Joachim Sauer (74), played by Thorsten Merten (59), her bodyguard and pug Helmut, she investigates there in the case of a murdered baron.
