A container ship that started in Odessa, Ukraine, has reached Istanbul. The “Joseph Schulte” passed through the Bosphorus on Friday, as eyewitnesses reported. The strait connects the Black Sea with the Mediterranean Sea. According to local media, the freighter is to dock in the port of Ambarli in southern Istanbul. The ship, managed by the German company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, BSM for short, reached Turkish territory via Romanian and Bulgarian territorial waters. The container ship had been stuck in the port of the Ukrainian city of Odessa since February 23, 2022, since the beginning of the war. Finally, on Wednesday, the freighter was able to set sail for Istanbul, via a corridor for merchant ships. Last week, Ukraine announced the establishment of a “humanitarian corridor” in the Black Sea. Through this passage, cargo ships such as the “Jospeh Schulte”, which have been stuck in ports since the beginning of the war, can leave the country despite Russian threats.
