Whether in the supermarket or when paying in a restaurant: Many bank customers were probably surprised – paying with their Girocard was not possible. The error has now been fixed.
Many savings bank customers have… Germany temporarily cannot pay with your Girocard. Payments in stores with the Girocard from the savings bank group were not possible for around two hours, said a spokeswoman for the German Savings Banks and Giro Association (DSGV). The error has now been fixed.
According to the information, disruptions occurred when an internal encryption process was used. This led to payment cards being rejected at individual retailers’ terminals. As a result, there could still be disruptions or cancellations in individual transactions, the DSGV said.
At its peak, there were more than 1,000 reports of problems at savings banks on the alletreiben.de portal. There were also a few reports from Commerzbank and Volks- und Raiffeisenbank, but these were apparently not related to the defaults at the savings banks. “All systems are running for us,” said a Commerzbank spokeswoman. A spokeswoman for the Federal Association of Volks- und Raiffeisenbank also emphasized that she currently had no reports of disruptions at institutions in the group.
