Construction site in Duisburg: injured in explosion of a gas pipe

Due to the explosion of an underground gas line in the Duisburg district of Mündelheim, the fire brigade is on a large scale. Four people were injured.

According to the police, one person was seriously injured. According to initial information, the gas line on a construction site caught fire. A truck loaded with gas bottles was also set on fire. The fire brigade is on site with almost 50 firefighters.

Local residents report multiple explosions near a gas station. A fire brigade spokesman says there is no longer any acute risk of explosion. The gas is said to have leaked from an underground gas line at a construction site and caught fire. The gas is now being burned off in a controlled manner by the fire brigade, and the lines are being cooled.

It is not yet known how the accident happened. In parts of the districts of Serm and Mündelheim, the electricity and natural gas supply had failed. 3000 households were affected. According to the Duisburg supply and transport company, the networks have now been restored. The B288 and the Rhine bridge are still closed in both directions.
