The new high-rise development plan calls for 14 new buildings. Most of them will be built in the city center, but some will also be in the east. One point in particular is important to the head of the planning department.

The Frankfurt skyline is expected to grow by 14 more buildings by 2040. This is what the draft for the new high-rise development plan that has now been presented provides. This specifies where new skyscrapers can be built. The magistrate and the city council still have to approve the plan, but it has already been agreed upon by the parties in the coalition.

The first plan of this kind was drawn up in 1998 and was last updated in 2008. Twelve buildings from this plan have not yet been built. A total of 26 new high-rise buildings could be built by 2040, as head of the planning department Marcus Gwechenberger (SPD) explained. Whether they will actually be built is another matter.

Currently, an average of one to two new high-rise buildings are being built every year Frankfurt completed. The most recent addition is the “Four” ensemble in the city center, which is nearing completion. Other projects are on hold, such as the renovation of the old police headquarters, next to which a high-rise building is also planned.
