Conservative Political Action Conference: In Conspiracy Land – Politics

Nationalists, conspiracy theorists and the religious right meet twice a year to pay homage to Donald Trump and his ideology. Even at the current meeting in Washington, there is hardly a world theory that is too far-fetched.

Donald Trump gathered his supporters at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) over the weekend and committed themselves to his ideology. “We will dismantle the deep state, we will destroy tyranny, and we will restore the American republic in all its radiant glory,” Trump said in his nearly two-hour speech at the meeting near Washington. “With God’s help and your support, we will make America powerful again.”

The CPAC now takes place twice a year – in recent years the meeting has become a gathering place for right-wing nationalists, conspiracy theorists and the religious right. The ticket costs just under 300 US dollars (around 280 euros), and a number of additional events are extra.

Brazil’s ex-president Bolsonaro does not see his “mission” as finished

CPAC is the forum of the far right in America – with their House spokesmen Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. Brazil’s right-wing ex-president Jair Bolsonaro also appeared and railed against so-called gender ideology and compulsory corona vaccination.

For Brazil’s right-wing ex-president, his “mission” in the country is not over yet. “You will notice that in 2022 I had a lot more support than in 2018,” said Bolsonaro, referring to the past presidential elections in Brazil. “And I don’t understand why the numbers reflect the opposite.” He was President of Brazil for one term. “But I feel deep down that this mission is not over.”
