That’s a cast coup! Next to Richard, Duke of Gloster, later King Richard III, phenomenally played by André Kaczmarczyk, there are only women on the stage of the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus. Of course, Shakespeare didn’t write it that way, there are a whole series of men in his early play, only they all have something subaltern about them and can’t hold a candle to the hunchbacked monster Richard. They are deleted. So how many women does it take not to keep the tyrant in check (you can’t), but still finish him off in the end?
