Concierto Munich presents the “Carnival of the Animals” at Gasteig HP8 – Munich

In his suite for chamber orchestra, composed in 1886 under the title “Le Carnaval des Animaux – Grande Fantaisie Zoologique”, the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns incorporated numerous animal call imitations – and parodied melodies from Mozart’s “Ah, vous dirai-je Maman” and Rossini “Barber of Seville”. He also makes the turtles dance in 2/4 time to Offenbach’s famous can-can melody and underlines the elephant with a motif from Berlioz’s elf ballet “La damnation de Faust”.

A real treat, so to speak, for actors and comedians like Sir Peter Ustinov, Loriot and most recently Bully Herbig, who provided the “Carnival of the Animals” with their own narrative texts. The chamber orchestra “Concierto Munich” under the direction of Carlos Domínguez-Nieto and the puppets of the “Munich Puzzle Theater” will bring the work to the stage on February 4th – with the texts by Loriot.

The Carnival of the Animals, Sunday, February 4th, 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., Gasteig, HP8, Hall X
