For the German this year there is another performance in a special environment. What is the spherical auditorium all about?

The German star pianist Igor Levit is scheduled to perform in a new temporary spherical concert hall in New York this summer. The spherical hall called “Sonic Sphere” with a diameter of around 20 meters and space for 250 people should hang from the ceiling in the art hall “The Shed” between June 9 and July 7, according to the operators.

The project is based on an idea by the German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen (1928-2007), who once proposed a “spherical auditorium”, and is now being implemented by an artist collective. On June 30 and July 1, Levit is scheduled to perform the piano piece “Palais de Mari” by US composer Morton Feldman.
