Concert of Vieux Farka Touré in the Muffatwerk – Munich

When Vieux Farka Touré wanted to follow in the footsteps of his famous father Ali Farka Touré at the age of 15, he could only do so in secret. Because if Touré senior had also brought the desert blues into the world on albums with Ry Cooder and Toumani Diabaté, his son should be spared a career in music: “Don’t make music, rather go into the military,” Vieux Farka Touré remembers the advice, no order, of his father. “He was frustrated because he didn’t come back from his European tours with anything. As he was illiterate, he was ripped off by his managers and concert agents.”
