Concert of the Munich Philharmonic with Sol Gabetta in the Isarphilharmonie – Munich

At the press conference for his directorship at the Erl Festival, Jonas Kaufmann just denied the desire for great emotion in post-war modern art music. In the evening, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra with Sol Gabetta will show how much emotion can function in ways other than sentiment and harmony in precisely this post-war modern music. Witold Lutosławski’s cello concerto from 1970 is a harmonically unwieldy and tonally cool piece. It relies on isolation, on disruption, on noise. Nevertheless, listening to it catches you, takes you away, tells of contradiction and loneliness. And shows it all as something deeply connecting and human.
