Concerns about the Republican’s health increased after US Senator McConnell repeatedly appeared frozen in appearances before the press. The Congressional Physician has now ruled out several serious illnesses.
After speculation about the health of Republican US Senator Mitch McConnell, his office has released a medical assessment letter. There is no evidence of a stroke, epilepsy or Parkinson’s disease, Congressional Physician Brian P. Monahan wrote in the letter, which has now been declassified.
In doing so, he did not provide any further explanation for the politician’s sensational failures in recent times.
Senator was frozen press conferences
McConnell, the Republican minority leader in the US Senate, was frozen at a press conference in the US state of Kentucky last week. The 81-year-old initially answered questions from journalists, but fell silent for about 30 seconds after a question about a possible re-election. It was the second incident of this kind in a short period of time.
Monahan said he was referring to several medical assessments made after McConnell fell and suffered concussion. There are no recommended changes to McConnell’s treatment for the March fall, he said. McConnell’s health problems have fueled speculation in Washington as to whether he can continue as minority leader.
