Numerous Microsoft services did not work. The group reported a disruption in the network infrastructure.
A worldwide disruption at Microsoft led to the failure of numerous services of the software group on Wednesday. Users reported on portals such as alle disturbances.de that, among other things, the office communication platform Teams and the e-mail service Outlook.com were not working. Microsoft confirmed that the network infrastructure was disrupted worldwide.
The company later identified a network configuration problem as the cause of the disruption. The group announced on Twitter that a change had been reversed that, according to previous knowledge, had caused the disruption.
Errors when changing the network configuration have repeatedly caused large-scale failures in the past. The effect is reinforced by the fact that the infrastructure for operating cloud services is heavily concentrated with a few large providers such as Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
Not only do the group’s own offerings rely on Microsoft’s cloud offerings such as Azure, but many start-ups and large companies also use them.
