Complaint after the broadcast of Hitlerian speeches by the loudspeakers of a train

These are unusual and distressing messages that were broadcast on a train in Austria on Sunday. Adolf Hitler’s voice echoed through the loudspeakers of a train from Bregenz to Vienna, says The Guardian. The expression “Heil Hitler” was also issued several times, according to the British daily. The Austrian company ÖBB has filed a complaint against two people, found by the authorities by analyzing the videos of the cameras of the train. They are not company employees. An investigation has been opened.

National outrage

“The loudspeakers were manipulated,” company spokesman Bernhard Rieder told AFP on Monday after the incident sparked outrage in the dictator’s native country. According to ÖBB, the two suspects managed to access the train’s audible announcement system with a key. No computer attack was observed.

Austria, annexed to the German Third Reich in 1938, has some of the strictest laws in the world against Holocaust denial and neo-Nazi activity. Disseminating Nazi propaganda is a criminal offence.
