Competition with traffic light coalition in environmental protection required – Bavaria

The Federation of Nature Conservation in Bavaria has asked the state government to go beyond the plans of the new federal government when it comes to environmental protection. “We need the energy turnaround, the agricultural turnaround and the mobility turnaround in Bavaria as soon as possible!” Emphasized the chairman Richard Mergner on Thursday. He therefore demanded from Prime Minister and CSU leader Markus Söder: “No fundamental opposition to the traffic lights, but a competition between Berlin and Munich for the best climate and environmental protection.” The Berlin coalition agreement between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP contains many good approaches that could also have a positive effect on Bavaria, Mergner said – for example in the expansion of renewable energies and the promotion of ecological agriculture.

The plans for the transport sector, however, are not particularly promising. Above all, Bavaria must set a good example there and, for example, cut back on the major road construction projects of the past. There is also a need for a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Mergner added: “But it must also be clear what the coalition would rather not tackle: that the number of cars and trucks as a whole must be reduced if we want to achieve our vital climate protection goals.” The Bund Naturschutz is the largest nature and environmental protection association in Bavaria with 260,000 members.
