Competition in Ebersberg: Climate protection made easy – Ebersberg

Protecting the climate is a concern for many people. But what is the best way to integrate this project into everyday life? This is now experienced by all participants in the first Ebersberg “Klimathon” – a competition that is not only good for the environment, but in which the most successful climate protectors in the district can also win prizes. The Klimathon initiated by district climate manager Lisa Rütgers is an app-based campaign that lasts 42 days and aims to motivate citizens, associations, companies or entire communities to reduce their CO2 footprint. It starts on March 1st.

Then the first of six theme weeks under the motto nutrition will start in the “Climate Compass” app, which can be downloaded free of charge. This is followed by challenges in the areas of housing, consumption/shopping, mobility, leisure/holidays and digital life. You can register for the Klimathon as an individual participant or as a team. In order to achieve a good result in the end, the participants must successfully master various tasks, all of which revolve around climate protection in everyday life. With every completed challenge you collect climate points.

In addition to these tasks, special promotions are offered during the six weeks. For example, solidarity agriculture in Grafing invites you to a guided tour and a planting campaign, the Agenda21 group will show a film on climate protection. Climate-friendly companies in the district will also appear in the app with their offers and can draw attention to themselves – particularly committed participants can earn discount points for an organic market, for example. “The aim of the climatothon is to create awareness and motivate people to change their behavior towards a more climate-friendly way of life,” says climate protection manager Rütgers.

Six district municipalities – the towns of Ebersberg and Grafing, as well as the municipalities of Aßling, Frauenneuharting, Poing and Moosach – have already confirmed their participation in the competition. Anyone who wants to take part in the Klimathon outside of these municipalities can register under the Ebersberg district group. At the end of the competition, which lasts until April 11th, there will be an evaluation. More information is available on the District Office’s website www.lra-ebe.de/landkreis/klimathon.
