Laimer has been a key figure for RB Leipzig in recent years and has impressed with consistently strong performances. Due to the contractual situation (Laimer is only tied to the Red Bulls until 2023), FC Bayern tried to win over the Austrian last summer.
The Munich team had already agreed with Laimer, but the two clubs did not find common ground when it came to the fee, even though they had come close to a few million euros at times.

The 25-year-old had made it clear in the summer when Manchester United also knocked that his heart was only attached to a move to Bayern. “On the one hand it’s nice because I’m an important player. On the other hand it’s difficult because you think a lot. But I’ve come to terms with it. It just keeps going. One of the best clubs in the world doesn’t knock everyone out either summer. But you can’t change it anyway.”
Laimer admitted that he will have a lot of thoughts about his future: “I’m more the guy who talks to people and needs a feeling that everything fits together.”
