Compensation – millions for electricity companies – economy

According to a media report, compensation payments for energy suppliers for electricity not fed into the grid are at an all-time high. Around 5,800 gigawatt hours of the electricity generated could not be fed in last year due to the sluggish grid expansion, the German electricity producers were compensated with a total of 807.1 million euros, reports the editorial network Germany (RND) from a response from the Federal Ministry of Economics to a request from the left. In 2021, the sum was 761 million euros. “It is grotesque that we are discussing the danger of blackouts and at the same time electricity worth over 800 million euros is being thrown away every year,” said Dietmar Bartsch, leader of the left-wing parliamentary group, to RND. The Economics Minister must finally get the sluggish network expansion going and protect consumers from such costs. The consumer bears the cost of the compensation: it is passed on to the network charges.
