They have hardly known any good news at Commerzbank recently, after years of decline, countless strategic turns and job reduction programs. It is understandable that the bank in Frankfurt is now celebrating: After almost five years and recent strong price gains, Commerzbank is returning to the Dax, the club of the 40 most valuable listed German companies, a kind of flagship for international investors too. CEO Manfred Knof sees the rise as confirmation that he is “on the right track with the realignment”. In fact, the profit of the money house has tripled in 2022. On social media, employees outdid each other with jubilant messages about the re-emergence.
