Comment – Greens betray beliefs – District of Munich

At the end of 2019, the Unterföhringer Greens applied to the municipal council for the municipality to join the working group of bicycle-friendly municipalities. At the time, they wrote, among other things, as a reason: “There are hardly any safe bike paths, cycling has to share the road space with car traffic on too many roads (…).” Now there would have been the opportunity to reduce the size of the road on part of the most important link in the village and to create more space for cyclists. That didn’t fail at the road construction department, which has an important say in Münchner Strasse, which is a state road. Nor did it fail because of the car drivers’ party CSU, which is fighting for every lane and every parking space elsewhere. It failed because of the Greens, and one can only speculate what prompted them to do so.

The statement made by her group leader in the local council is anything but conclusive. Gisela Fischer criticized that pedestrians and cyclists should continue to share a path. That may not be optimal. But do you want to forego expanding the cycle path entirely? Even with the planting of trees and the reduction of the lanes, Fischer could not get used to it – although both should be very important to the Greens.

The real reason for the strange voting behavior is probably more consideration for the political partners of the party-free electorate who do not want to dismantle Münchner Strasse. Since the local elections, the Greens in Johannes Mecke have been allowed to appoint one of the deputies of Mayor Andreas Kemmelmeyer. For this you have to vote against your own convictions – the Greens, who always act so morally superior, are no different from other parties.
