COMMENT:Decision with aftertaste

The Planegger municipal council sacrifices nature and the environment in favor of profit

Comment from Rainer Rutz

New brooms don’t necessarily sweep better – but they often sweep differently. The decision of the new municipal council and its mayor Hermann Nafziger to enlarge the industrial area in Steinkirchen initially only means that they want to create space for two companies operating on the world market. They should be able to stay in Planegg and not only give the community a reputation, but above all wash money into the empty coffers.

For years, Planegg has been in an almost hopeless competition with its Graefelfingen neighbors, who are generating new record income from year to year through trade tax and have long since left Planegg behind. In addition, millions are missing in the Planegger municipal coffers that will have to be used in the next few years for urgent infrastructure measures – such as housing. Nevertheless, the decision to expand the business park leaves a smack.

For decades, the community refrained from major expansions in Steinkirchen, also for the sake of the environment and the green image of the garden city. For months, for example, there was a dispute over the settlement of the organic giant Morphosys. And now? If you whip through a measure at record speed that may open the door to further desires.
