Hamburg commemorates one of the city’s famous sons, who died a good two years ago. Now a piece of the harbor promenade has been officially renamed after him.

Hamburg’s most famous promenade at the port is now officially called Jan-Fedder-Promenade. A good two years after his death, the promenade between Landungsbrücken and Baumwall was named after the popular folk actor on Friday.

On January 14, Jan Fedder (“Großstadtrevier”) would have been 67 years old.

“The naming of the Jan-Fedder-Promenade is definitely the best birthday present Jan has ever received,” said his widow Marion Fedder. “Jan was a Hamburg heart and soul and proud of his city. The port of Hamburg was his home, his elixir of life. Couldn’t have found a better place to honor Jan for eternity.”

Hamburg’s Interior Senator Andy Grote (SPD) launched the idea together with Fedder’s widow. “Few people stand for our city and the Hamburg police like Jan Fedder. And it will stay that way, »said Grote. «With the Jan-Fedder-Promenade we have found the ideal place to commemorate the life and work of the great popular actor and well-known model police officer. Here was his grandfather’s gas station, his parents’ pub and the center of his life – in his roles, as well as in real life. »

As police officer Dirk Matthies, Fedder had ensured law and order in the Hamburg neighborhood for decades in the ARD evening series “Großstadtrevier”. The extremely popular popular actor was also honorary commissioner of the Hamburg police.
