Comfortable shoes from Western Pomerania – economy

The shoe manufacturer Birkenstock Group has opened a new production facility in Pasewalk (West Pomerania-Greifswald). With a sum of 110 million euros, this is the largest single investment in the company’s history, as the company from Linz in Rhineland-Palatinate announced in Pasewalk. The construction time for the new plant in the Berlin-Szczecin industrial park was 17 months.

200 employees currently work in Pasewalk, and in the longer term there are plans to increase this to a total of 1,000 employees. The construction is considered one of the largest company investments in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 1990. Among other things, Birkenstock manufactures sandals with orthopedic footbeds in Western Pomerania, which are to be delivered to more than 100 countries worldwide.

According to the Birkenstock Group, it has 6,200 employees worldwide. The Görlitz site in Saxony in particular is to be relieved with the new plant in Pasewalk. There they have had positive experiences with production in the German-Polish border area. The industrial area in Pasewalk, not far from the eleven and 20 motorways and around 120 kilometers from Berlin, was empty for many years. After intensive advertising, a shelf manufacturer from southern Germany had already settled there, and according to economic development there are now other interested parties.
