After almost three decades, Hape Kerkeling is continuing a television comedy – the holiday satire “Club Las Piranjas”. As he tells the German Press Agency, the filming in Mauritius was quite turbulent.

played in 1995 Hape Kerkeling stars in the television film “Club Las Piranjas”, a satire on package holidays. 28 years later, RTL+ is now bringing a four-part sequel from October 19th. Kerkeling (58) can be seen again in his former role as Edwin Öttel, only aged accordingly.

The sequel was actually supposed to come into the program in 2020 for the 25-year-old, the comedian tells the German Press Agency. But then Corona intervened. “Hence the strange number.” But it was clear to him: “The story is crying out for a sequel.”

Klamaack in front of a tropical backdrop

After a break of almost three decades, we now learn that entertainer Edwin hasn’t really achieved anything in life. But then, on her deathbed, his ex-boss and ex-lover Renate Wenger (Judy Winter) makes him an offer to leave him half of her club resort in Mauritius – as long as he can prevent the upcoming wedding of their son Björn (Ben Münchow). . In the course of his efforts, however, Edwin develops fatherly feelings for Björn, who in turn has no idea that Edwin is his father.

The original comedy from 1995 drew its appeal from situations that many package holidaymakers could recognize from their own experiences. That is much less the case this time. If you want to get involved in the slapstick story, you shouldn’t have any problems with the confusing plot, woodcut-like characters and thick punch lines. There must be an almost wild determination to sink back into the TV chair and simply enjoy seeing Hape Kerkeling again in a beautiful tropical setting.

It rained a lot and everyone had Corona

He himself talks about the three months of filming: “I have to say that Mauritius thrilled me. Mauritius is actually paradise on earth. And the people there are wonderful. Otherwise I got up at 4.30 a.m. every morning, it got dark early, and It rained a lot. Oh, we all had Corona too.” In addition, the hotel was by no means reserved for the film crew, but was also populated by vacation-hungry tourists. Since it was also a honeymoon hotel, a wedding ceremony took place every 40 minutes – and then filming had to be interrupted: “The filming conditions were sometimes, let’s say, challenging.”

In recent years, Kerkeling has been rather rare on screen. Does his return as Edwin Öttel mean a return to the TV business? “I won’t be appearing in any daily soaps,” he replies. “Promise! Although…”
