Collective bargaining round – IG Metall increases the pressure with warning strikes – economy

IG Metall wants to intensify the warning strikes in the wage dispute in the metal and electrical industry. Since the employers had not shown any willingness to find a solution in the fourth round of negotiations either, the warning strikes would be ramped up on Monday, the IG Metall district center announced. “There is a week of decisions to be made. Either the association representatives will come to their senses or we will start the 24-hour warning strike,” said district manager Jörg Köhlinger. There should be strikes in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse and Thuringia at the beginning of the week. The board of IG Metall wants to decide on how to proceed on Monday evening. According to the union, more than half a million employees have taken part in warning strikes, public rallies and company actions in the past two weeks. The employees have no understanding for the delaying tactics of the employers, said union boss Jörg Hofmann. Employers would now have to submit a substantial offer. The employers’ association Gesamtmetall once again rejected the union’s demand for eight percent more wages for twelve months. This was “out of the world,” said Total Metal boss Stefan Wolf.
