Collective bargaining round – chemical workers want wage increase over inflation – economy

The trade union IG BCE wants to achieve a wage increase above inflation for chemical and pharmaceutical employees. “At the end of the collective bargaining round, there must be a plus above the inflation rate,” says negotiator Ralf Sikorski. The negotiations for the 600,000 employees in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry are the first major round of wages since prices have risen significantly more. Leading economic institutes predict inflation of around four percent, according to Sikorski. “We want to build a bulwark against inflation for our members.” The chemical employers reject this. “The demand is a bottomless pit. If the IG BCE continues on this course, it will be a tough bargaining round.”
