Collective agreement at Lufthansa: Flight attendants get more money

Status: 11/01/2022 12:16 p.m

Without a strike, Lufthansa and the flight attendants’ union Ufo have agreed on a new collective agreement. The approximately 19,000 employees will receive a combination of a base increase and percentage increases.

After five months of negotiations, Lufthansa and the independent flight attendant organization (Ufo) have reached a wage agreement for the airline’s cabin crew. This provides for a pay increase in two steps for the 19,000 employees for the year 2023, as both sides announced.

250 euros and then 2.5 percent more money

In addition to a base increase of 250 euros for all salary levels on January 1st, the remuneration will increase by 2.5 percent on July 1st. With these two levels, the total increases – depending on the salary level – are between almost nine percent and 17.47 percent for young professionals. Five one-off payments totaling EUR 1,200 had already been agreed for the current year. The term of the wage agreement ends on December 31, 2023.

The UFO was the only trade union for its professional group that did not go on strike at the Lufthansa core company.

Both sides are satisfied

“Lower and middle salary groups will benefit disproportionately from the agreement,” said Lufthansa HR Director Michael Niggemann.

“With a first solid increase in remuneration after two years of crisis caused by the pandemic, we can now go through 2023, for which an upswing is forecast at Lufthansa,” said Stefan Schwerthelm, collective bargaining officer from the Ufo union.
