CoinEx Institute | STEPN : A Good Example of a Gamification Web 3.0 Application

In the world of web 2.0, it is difficult for app developers to stand out as thousands of mobile apps are trying to conquer the market. And only the exciting and challenging will keep users engaged, so most dapps use gamification as a strategy for user engagement and retention.

What if in the world of Web 3.0, even though there are few web3.0 applications? But it still faces competition with web 2.0 applications, so gamification can be a good strategy. But it may have been named gamefi in the Web 3.0 era.

STEPN, one of ViaBTC Capital’s portfolios, is a Web 3.0 application that makes great use of the gamefi component. This article introduces the concept and design of STEPN, as well as inspiration from STEPN.

What is STEP?

1. Crypto assets

STEPN is a Move2Earn Web3.0 lifestyle application with built-in gaming and social elements. Currently running on the Solana blockchain, Move2Earn’s concept can be interpreted as follows:

  • Patterns of movement include walking, jogging, or running outdoors. which before the movement Users should download the STEPN mobile application, apply for an account, import or create a Solana wallet, and purchase or transfer them into the Sneaker NFT. Without the Sneaker NFT, movement will be ineffective.
  • How to earn money? by movement Users earn Crypto such as game currency and NFT, which can be used or sold for profit, and users may “get healthy too” as the move2earn mechanism will incentivize users to go out and “earn honor. This is because users can show off their achievements such as badges earned by completing missions and special sneakers earned by special missions.
  • How to earn more? It depends on physical effort and effective strategy. All users will be able to come up with a suitable strategy if they are willing to spend time on a comprehensive study. and the complex economic mechanics of gamefi. The following sections will help you understand the basics of STEPN design.

What is the design of STEPN?

As an application with gamefi elements, STEPN is designed to have both NFT and FT. NFT consists of Shoeboxes, Sneakers, Gems and Badges, while FT contains GST (Green Satoshi) Game Tokens. Token) and GMT Governance Token (Green Metaverse Token).

For NFT, sneakers are key and can be compared to Axies, as two sneakers can “breed” (mint) the other as a new sneaker, which has egg status as Shoesbox from a design standpoint. Sneakers are easily distinguished by type. This includes walkers, joggers, runners, and trainers with different optimal speeds that are required when moving. However, sneakers may differ from other types. The sneakers feature Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary, with a minimum and maximum specification of performance, luck, comfort and flexibility. Each attribute will be enhanced as the sneakers level up. The maximum level is 30 and each 5X access unlocks perks (such as unlocking sockets).

Each sneaker has four sockets. Each slot is unlocked when the sneaker reaches level 5, 10, 15 and 20. Sockets are used to insert relevant gems to enhance the sneaker’s properties.

There are 4 types of gems: yellow for performance. blue for luck red for comfort and purple for flexibility. The maximum gem level is 9 and three gems should be used to upgrade to the next level. invention of shoes and supervision

Overall, the amount, type, attributes and levels mentioned above will have a huge impact on the user’s earnings within the game. This will be explained further in the section on income factors.

As for NFT tokens, there are two tokens used within StepN. GST is an SLP-like Game Token that functions as a utility and rewards tokens, while GMT is a Governance Token with a role similar to AXS.

Meanwhile, GMT comes with all the supply. 6,000,000,000 It was created at the Token Generation Event where it was burned by participating in governance, upgrade sneakers at level 28 to 30, and minting Rare, Epic as well as legendary shoes, etc.

As a game, MOVE2Earn STEPN is designed to allocate 30% of all GMT to its users. Through move&earn participation and governance, 30% of most ecosystem funds It will be used for giveaways and community events such as Forever Online Marathon Offers (FOMO), and STEPN was one of the first token halvings launched, as was the Bitcoin Halving (STEPN formerly FindSatoshi) by GMT. It is halved every three years to ensure longevity. It will start from 15% to 7.5% and so on until all the tokens are released.

In summary, assets within STEPN are acquired and used for gaming and other instances. mentioned in the following graph.

2. Game mode

There are three game modes: Solo Mode, Marathon Mode, and Background Mode. This is an easier way to view Solo mode as PvE mode while Marathon mode is PvP mode.

for solo mode Users are rewarded for going out and using energy. Note that this energy is not physical energy. But it’s an element of the game. And there is no income if energy is used up. Every 1 Energy equals 5 minutes of movement and Energy is replenished by 25% every 6 hours until the Energy Cap is reached. GST/GMT is paid for every minute of movement while at the puzzle box (Gift Box) will be dropped randomly.

The token’s earnings depend on four main factors: the type of sneakers. Performance features of sneakers Comfort features of sneakers and speed of movement

in marathon mode Users will receive tokens and badges if they win. There are both weekly marathons (2.5 km, 5 km or 7.5 km) and monthly marathon (5 km, 10 km or 15 km), but users can only participate in one category for each marathon. per week or month Users must register at least 24 hours before they start and charge a fee. which will be refunded upon completion If not Such fees are included in the Leaderboard Awards.

Background mode allows users to earn money even when the app is not in use. This will cost no energy, but is limited to 3,000 steps per day.

3. Factors for earning money

Marathon mode earnings are largely dependent on the user’s running performance. While Solo Mode is dependent on many other factors, Solo Mode in particular has both Daily Energy Limits and Daily Tokens. This limits the amount of energy and tokens a user can have per day. To increase the Energy Cap and Token Cap, one way is to have a higher quality shoe. Other factors include Movement Speed, Sneakers (Type, Attribute, Quality & Level), Gems (Type, Level & Quality). Sockets inserted) and NFT Badges, more detailed information is shown in the following graph.

4. Other systems and infrastructure

In addition to the top earning and power system mentioned above, the gamefi system also includes Quest System, Achievement System, Anti-Cheat System. as well as the tax and fee system While the original two systems are still under development. But the latter two systems have already been deployed.

The anti-cheat system consists of three mechanisms: GPS tracking, motion sensors and health data, and machine learning to detect fraud through data simulation. The mechanism stops users from cheating in the game. and the scammer’s account will be punished.

The tax and fee system means that the game will charge different taxes and fees for in-app activities such as trading in the marketplace, renting shoes and sneakers 2% plus 4% (NFT creator royalty fee) of 6%. and 8% respectively

Moreover, STEPN is an invite-only game with an Activation Code System, where users can receive one activation code for every 10 energy spent. However, only 1 activation code can be stored for each user until each use

As an app that offers a wide variety of in-game NFTs, STEPN also comes with a marketplace where users can rent or sell/buy NFT sneakers, badges, and gems. He received the necessary credit rating. meanwhile Beginners can start with rentable sneakers if they don’t have the money to buy sneakers.
