Coen film “Drive-Away Dolls” in the cinema: Oh brother, where are you? – Culture

Because the Coen brothers are currently traveling solo, Ethan Coen teamed up with his wife for the lesbian, intentionally trashy sex-and-crime comedy “Drive-Away Dolls.”

The inseparable Coen brothers are currently breaking up, much to the chagrin of their many fans. First, Joel (the taller, darker one) made a solo directorial foray into misty symbolism with Shakespearean verse (“The Tragedy of Macbeth,” 2021). Now Ethan (the shorter, red-haired one) is showing a lesbian, permissive, deliberately trashy sex-and-crime comedy: “Drive-Away Dolls”. The difference couldn’t be more stark, not even from the films we usually know from them – perhaps the reason for this temporary separation lies somewhere in there. Oh brother, where are you?
