Two weeks before the Coachella festival, Kanye West surprisingly canceled his headlining performance. A replacement has now been found.

The Coachella Festival has found a replacement for Kanye West’s (44) appearance. The festival announced via social mediathat instead of him on April 17th and 24th The Weeknd (32) will play together with Swedish House Mafia.

“I’m so excited for this moment as the Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd wrap up the Sunday night slot this year,” said Paul Tollett, CEO of Coachella promoter Goldenvoice. in a statement to Variety.

The Coachella has already adapted its posters to the new headliners on Instagram and Co. Other appearances are planned by Harry Styles (28), Billie Eilish (20), Stromae (37) and Jamie xx (33). The “Starboy” singer headlined the festival in 2018. The Weeknd previously collaborated with the Swedish House Mafia for a song on his last album.

West wasn’t at the Grammys either

West canceled his headlining performance on Monday. A source close to the rapper told CNN that the rapper didn’t want to take the stage due to the headlines of the past few weeks. Among other things, he caused a stir with the divorce from Kim Kardashian (41) and insults against her new boyfriend Pete Davidson (28). He also had a public twist with singer Billie Eilish. West was previously disinvited by the organizers of the Grammys, which took place on April 3rd.

The festival, which takes place in the southern Californian desert of Indio near Palm Springs, had to be postponed and canceled several times due to the corona pandemic. The 2020 event was planned for April of the same year but was postponed to October and eventually canceled due to the global pandemic. In 2019, the festival attracted almost a quarter of a million people.
