Climate protests: When the police hurt – politics

If demonstrators block traffic, police officers can remove them from the street, if necessary by force. But where is the pain threshold – also legally?

One has almost gotten used to the images of young people in orange safety vests sitting on the asphalt and blocking the way for cars. But in between, video recordings are now circulating, the sight of which is difficult to get used to and should not. For example, a police officer stands in front of a young climate demonstrator in Berlin and says: The demonstrator should get up off the street, “right now, otherwise I will hurt you.” And he adds slowly and calmly: If the demonstrator takes the chance, “you will have pain when chewing and swallowing for the next few days.”
