How does the federal capital vote in the referendum on Sunday on whether climate protection should move faster? It takes a lot of people to put out a fire, says activist Neubauer.
Activist Luisa Neubauer again called for more speed in climate protection before a Berlin referendum. It depends on everyone, said Neubauer on Friday in the rbb info radio. “If we decide together to put out a fire, then it takes people who each do their part to put out the fire. And not people who stand around on the side of the road and say, ‘Ui, but what can I do? “” said the activist.
Cities and countries around the world are needed to get started and get down to business. Berlin can position itself in the global top class in climate protection and now inspire others. “And then we also have a real chance of getting things turned around.”
Climate neutrality by 2030?
With a vote on Sunday, a citizens’ initiative wants Berlin to commit to becoming climate neutral by 2030 – and not by 2045 as previously planned. It is disputed, among other things, whether this is even feasible.
The general manager of the Berlin-Brandenburg business associations, Christian Amsinck, considers this to be “in fact completely impossible”. “Because it would mean that the heat supply and the power supply would be completely emission-free, i.e. switched to renewable energies,” he said on rbb Inforadio. A draft law is being presented that is not supported by measures.
Climate neutrality means that no more greenhouse gases may be emitted than can be bound again. To achieve this, emissions that are harmful to the climate, for example from combustion cars, airplanes, heating systems, power plants or industrial companies, would have to be significantly reduced.
