Climate Crisis: How to Convert Greenhouse Gases in Food – Knowledge

Plants have been able to produce valuable products from the climate killer CO₂ for hundreds of millions of years. With their leaves, they fish the greenhouse gas out of the air, converting it into sugar and starch with the help of sunlight and water. The process with climate protection effect is also known as photosynthesis and is quite complex. The plant has to carry out many synthesis steps in a finely tuned manner until nutrients are converted from carbon dioxide. A team from China has now been able to simplify it and produce starch in the laboratory without going through the plant.
