It is not just any trees that Augsburg wants to plant in the northern city center by 2025. It should be heat-resistant specimens, equipped with sensors that determine the water requirement and thus optimize watering management. The planting of individual trees in the city has hardly any impact on the CO₂ balance, says Peter Rauscher, parliamentary group leader and spokesman for environmental and nature conservation of the Augsburg Greens. “But the green cools down concrete areas and makes the city more livable.”
